PaxLock Pro2 is Paxton’s new wireless access control door handle. It puts the batteries, electric lock, fob reader and control unit inside a single handle, so you can control who opens a door without running a cable to it.
Paxton launched PaxLock Pro2 on 29 September 2026 as the successor to its PaxLock Pro handle. From the outside it looks much the same. Underneath, almost every part has been redesigned. It is stronger, it meets fire door regulations, it is simpler to fit and it adds a Privacy Button that installers had been asking for.

A typical access-controlled door needs a reader on the wall, an electric lock on the door and a cable running back to a control unit. PaxLock does all of that inside the handle itself. A member of staff presents a fob or card, the handle checks whether they are allowed in and the door opens. Nothing is fixed to the wall and nothing needs cabling.
PaxLock Pro2 is designed to work on all standard doors and is compatible with all new DIN mortice locks, the standard lock bodies set into the edge of many commercial doors. There is now a single version for both internal and external doors. The original PaxLock Pro came in separate internal and external versions, so this removes one decision at the ordering stage.

The biggest change is strength. Paxton says it has never tested a product as heavily, with the re-engineered mechanism run well beyond a million cycles. It is the strongest handle Paxton has produced, and its rotational torque strength now exceeds that of a standard manual door handle. In plain terms, it resists being forced round better than the ordinary handle on the door next to it.
That matters on the doors that take a beating: the cellar door that gets barged open with a crate, the corridor to the toilets on a busy Saturday or the classroom corridor between lessons. A handle that fails on those doors is a handle that gets propped open, and a propped door is not secure.
Installation has also been simplified. Paxton says the fitting process is easier and more forgiving than before, which in practice means less time on each door and less disruption while we are on site.
Yes. PaxLock Pro2 meets FD30 and FD60 fire regulations. These are the ratings given to fire doors designed to hold back fire for 30 and 60 minutes respectively. It also holds EN179 certification for safe egress. EN179 is the European standard for emergency exit devices on routes used by people who know the building, such as staff and regular visitors. It means someone inside can always get out in an emergency, whatever the handle is set to on the outside.
Fire door compliance covers the whole door set and how it is fitted, not only the handle, so it is worth having the door itself checked as part of any installation.
The Privacy Button is new on PaxLock Pro2. Press it from inside the room and the door is secured straight away. The handle will not let anyone in from the outside until the button is released.
It suits any room where people need privacy without anyone handing out keys: a manager’s office during a cash-up, a first aid room, a staff changing room, a hotel meeting room or a school counselling room.
Paxton rates PaxLock Pro2 at up to 55,000 operations or two years on a single set of batteries. Spread over two years, that is roughly 75 openings a day. A quiet office door will use far fewer. A busy corridor door may use more and need fresh batteries sooner.
The handle also uses a capacitive wake-up, which means it responds the instant a fob is presented rather than leaving staff waiting at the door.
Yes. On a smaller site, PaxLock Pro2 can run as a standalone, offline handle that looks after its own door. For full online access control, it joins a larger Net2 or Paxton10 system and behaves like every other door in the building, so fobs are added and cancelled from the same software.
On Paxton10, the handle’s dual-frequency RFID reader also supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mobile credentials. Staff can unlock the door with their smartphone using Paxton’s free smart credentials, which means fewer fobs to hand out and chase back.

PaxLock earns its place on the doors where running cable is disruptive, expensive or not allowed. That describes a lot of the buildings we work in: Victorian pubs, members’ clubs in converted houses, hotels in listed buildings and older school blocks.
In a pub, that might be the office and the stock room. In a members’ club, the committee room and the secretary’s office. In a hotel, the back-of-house rooms housekeeping and maintenance need but guests should not reach. In a school, the staff room, the medical room and the office where records are kept. Each of those doors can be controlled, and on Net2 or Paxton10 logged, without lifting a floorboard.
